1998-2008, I started this company when my mom encouraged me after getting stopped where ever I went and asked where I got what Cleo was wrapped in or eating from. "You should start a business!," she said. "Yeah, right. I don't know the first thing about launching a business," I said. Well, low and behold, armed with three items, I gave it a shot. I printed a catalog, made a mailing list I made from a program I got at Staples and off I went! We have moved it from my house to an office near the town flagpole, to the old Sandy Hook post office to a warehouse and guess what? I found a beautiful farm with a warehouse. (How smart is that?) All the room for shipping and fresh eggs too! My American Dream. I have learned much (I have the wrinkles to prove it) and have loved every day of it! Trial and error, feast and famine, tears and smiles, life and loss, there are so many people to thank! My husband and daughter (John and Cleo), my astrologer (Twink), my shoulder to cry (Shannon) and my awesome photographer (DuAnne) and most of all, my Mom (Judy). I miss you everyday. I hope this current movement for conservation and the earth's health will sustain. I remember the 1970s as a kid, the energy crisis and the solar panels that sprouted up in our neighborhood. I remember the birth of the Honda CVCC and the Yugo, Subaru FF1, the Pacer and the Pinto (to name a few), cars that got tons of miles to the gallon and all of a sudden out of nowhere comes a mini-van, gas prices came down again and they got bigger and bigger. (Crisis averted? I think not.) People forget. I really hope everyone sticks with it this time. Please don?t forget, even if the price of gas comes down, and it will. Demand better, re-use/recycle, and less is really more, so when you buy, buy for life. Everything we make today are things I made for Cleo and a few more that I feel can be put away and saved for your children?s children. Thank you for helping us grow in business and our efforts towards supporting sustainable agriculture in the fabrics we choose. 'Tis a gift to be simple...and we think you'll agree. Mary Fellows |
